Inside/Out: Boston Scores + East Boston

In person. Free.

Join us outside! We are thrilled to invite you to the sixth year of "Inside/Out" -- landscape architecture site tours across our region.

Our 2025 series continues in East Boston...

We will explore issues of access and equity; environmental change and community play.

RSVP here

The tour begins in the new, transformative playing fields for Boston Scores. Synthetic turf is a highly contested subject -- especially when considering climate resiliency and environmental impact -- but done correctly with green principles, it provides equitable, inclusive, wellness access to diverse, minority groups in urban communities where there is lack of green open and accessible space.

If you were inspired by the related Lightning Talk at Fieldday, you'll love exploring this project firsthand! (Check out David Warners's 5 minute talk, starting at X:X in this video.) Join us for a discussion with the landscape architects, civil engineers, and community leaders behind this project as we see the playing fields in action.

.

After Boston Scores, we'll walk along the Greenway to the Wood Island overlook and the Neptune Road Airport Edge Buffer...

Across the Blue Line MBTA tracks from the fields sit Constitution Beach and the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway... Named after the legendary environmental justice advocate, the Greenway offers access and connection through the neighborhood and along the water's edge, and soon will connect Boston Harbor to Belle Isle Marsh, Revere Beach, and the North Shore.

Along the Greenway, we'll see the remnants of the former Wood Island Park -- an Olmsted park demolished a half century ago for Logan Airport expansion; we'll see recent work to mitigate that airport impact, and we'll hear about current Greenway renovation plans, designed to help protect this neighborhood from the impacts of future flooding.

All are welcome.

Members and non-members too. Tickets are FREE, tour size limited, registration appreciated. Please come dressed for the weather, prepared to walk outside.

We aim to go in most weather. We will email all ticket holders and post any changes on Instagram.

This tour extends the educational program of Fieldday outdoors... We look forward to exploring with you!
