About this tour:

Playgrounds are more than just fun. They’re vital environments for children to build physical, cognitive, social and emotional skills. But for many kids, especially those with developmental differences, outdoor play spaces can feel overwhelming. This can lead to missed opportunities for connection, growth and play skill development. In this Learning Academy session, we’ll explore how playground design directly influences play skill acquisition and supports child development. Playground planners will gain insight into common pediatric diagnoses and how each can impact a child’s ability to participate in play.

This large, inclusive playground at 200 Trapelo Road opened in May 2025 and has been wildly popular ever since. Built on the historic grounds of the former Fernald Developmental Center, it is the largest inclusive playground completed by Landscape Structures and M.E. O’Brien & Sons in New England, designed for children of all ages and abilities.

Speakers :

  • Dr.Ariel Mansholt, OTR/L, CPSI
