Hello! Are you an Emerging Professional — meaning that you’ve graduated within the past 5ish years? Are you interested in connecting with other EPs? Are you thinking about licensure? Welcome! We’re so glad that you’re here.

This page will continue to grow and evolve. We welcome any and all ideas for what you’d like to see on this page.

First! The people: the BSLA Emerging Professional committee co-chairs include Estello Raganit, Chris Ramage, Miranda Hulme, and Karl Alamo. If you’d like to get involved or just want to say hello and learn more, we’d love to hear from you. Please email ep@bslanow.org.

The LARE & the Path to Licensure

Study Groups

Are you studying now — or planning to do so soon? Would you like to connect with others as part of small, informal LARE study groups?

Sign up for the Fall 2023 “Last Chance” LARE Study Group here.

Info Session

Not too long ago, we held a Zoom conversation about the LARE and licensure. What is it, things to consider, and a few personal experiences from Rachel Loeffler, ASLA, and Haipeng Zhu, ASLA, who each passed the exam not too long ago. We hope that you find their perspectives helpful, and the Q&A too.

A Road Map to First Time Landscape Licensure in the State of Massachusetts

Click the image below to download a PDF of this diagram. This was prepared by individuals to help them outline their own personal experiences to licensure in Massachusetts, 2010 - 2021.

Please note: This guide is offered to help Emerging Professionals of our BSLA community. It does NOT hold any legal standing.

The current process might be different than this outline. Policies, procedures, agencies, and fees are subject to change. Visit mass.gov and clarb.org for any and all official information. If you encounter changes or see ways to improve this diagram, please email the chapteroffice.

Mentoring

The ASLA Mentorship Program is an online networking and career development tool that connects ASLA students with professional members who match their interests.

This is a national program, with the option for mentoring relationships nearby or across the country.

The program is geared toward Student ASLA members. Yes, one does need to be a member to participate — though Student membership in ASLA is free. Learn more about the program here. Sign up to become a Student ASLA member here.

. . . . .

Mass and Maine EPs! Would you like us to set a mentoring program up for you, here, in our region?

What would make it useful to you?

We think a regional mentoring program is a good idea — and we’ve got it on our agenda. If this would be ESPECIALLY helpful right now (meaning: this should move up to the top of our working agenda) or if you have thoughts on how this might be structured so that it’s both simple to sign up AND effective, we’re all ears. Please send an email to gretchen@bslanow.org with any and all recommendations or declarations of urgency. Thanks!

Don’t be a stranger

BSLA is volunteer led, volunteer driven. We love to hear from you. We need to hear from you! Your voice and suggestions will help us serve you — and other young landscape architects and designers like you — better. At the end of the day, that’s why we’re here. But we can’t help you unless you tell us what you need.

This short, anonymous survey is one way that we’re gathering input and ideas. Or, if you prefer to email or DM us on social media, that’s always welcome too. Thanks!

We hope this helps! And online or in person, we hope to see you soon.
