Ecological Landscape Project Manager

Founded in 2013 by Edwina von Gal, Perfect Earth Project is a nonprofit dedicated to educating, engaging, and inspiring individuals, land care professionals, and decision-makers to adopt toxic-free, nature-based, and climate-responsible landscaping practices necessary for a healthier, more sustainable—and beautiful—environment for all.

Perfect Earth Project is seeking an Ecological Landscape Project Manager to play a leading role in developing and managing an ecological consulting and advisory practice focused on transitioning properties to toxic-free, nature-based land care. In addition the job will include assisting Edwina von Gal on a small number of nature based landscape design projects.

This position combines ecological consulting, project coordination, client guidance, land care oversight and practitioner training. The Ecological Landscape Project Manager will work directly with Edwina von Gal helping to guide clients, coordinate implementation, oversee ecological land care practices, and train landscapers, in order to ensure the successful transformation of properties into thriving, biodiverse landscapes, and create the commitment and team work required to ensure long term success and joyful outcomes.

The role offers a unique opportunity to help shape and lead an emerging model and pilot program for guiding ecological land management that fosters enthusiastic commitments to ecological land care through awareness and education of both land owners and professional service providers.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in site visits and meetings.

  • Prepare meeting notes, site reports, recommendations, presentations, and project documentation.

  • Introduce clients to the goals, expectations, and long-term commitments involved in the process of thoughtfully designing, installing and caring for toxic-free, nature-based landscapes.

  • Guide clients and project teams through the process of designing, installing and maintaining ecological properties.

  • Serve as a thoughtful and responsive liaison among clients, consultants, designers, and landscape professionals.

  • Provide input and guidance on PRFCT Earth’s Marshouse Garden which serves as a living demonstration for ecological design and practices.

Landscape Design & Project Coordination

  • Assist and lead a small number of nature-based landscape design projects from concept through implementation and long term ecological/successional care.

  • Collaborate with project teams, (general contractors, architects, engineers, advisors) and drafting associates to help translate ideas into actionable plans and successful implementation.

  • Coordinate pricing proposals, schedules, communications, deliverables, and project follow-through.

  • Help oversee all phases of installation and land-care implementation.

  • Ensure projects remain aligned with ecological, aesthetic, and operational goals throughout the process.

Ecological Consulting - Property Owner Guidance

  • Prepare ecological site assessments and reports for clients.

  • Identify, assemble and coordinate land care teams.

  • Ensure success of property transitions through client communication and excellent service responses by land care professionals.

  • Train land care teams as needed.

  • Assist in identifying and engaging new clients and experts for formation of consultation response teams.

  • Work with Perfect Earth Project and the PRFCT Earth School in developing systems, standards, and best practices for an emerging model of ecological consulting and land care engagement and education.

  • Serve as an ambassador for ecological stewardship, biodiversity, and nature-based landscape management.

Landscape Professional Coordination & Training

  • Work closely with landscape teams on projects to help introduce and reinforce ecological land care practices and toxic-free management approaches.

  • Coordinate and support training sessions for landscapers and maintenance crews.

  • Foster productive relationships with landscape professionals while helping to bring them into better understanding of and commitment to ecological land care.

  • Monitor work quality and help troubleshoot challenges throughout project implementation and ongoing care.

  • Help demonstrate and communicate a compelling model for responsible, nature-based landscape management.

  • Support alignment with the ecological principles and educational mission of Perfect Earth Project.

  • Train land care teams as needed.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing landscape projects and coordinating teams for ongoing care.

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in one or more: horticulture, botany, ecology, landscape design/architecture, environmental studies, or related fields.

  • Familiarity and experience with ecological landscape practices: Chemical Free/Nature Based.

  • A passion for ecology, biodiversity, and nature-based land stewardship.

  • Exceptional organizational and project coordination skills.

  • Excellent contacts in horticulture, environmental, and educational fields.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with clarity and attention to detail.

  • Entrepreneurial interest in helping shape a new professional field.

  • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Thoughtful problem-solving skills and strong professional judgment.

  • Good writing skills.

  • Comfort working directly with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to work cheerfully outdoors in less than pleasant conditions.

  • Occasional weekend work.

  • Occasional travel.

  • Willingness to relocate to Long Island East End.

  • Work from PRFCT Earth office in Springs, East Hampton or home nearby the conventional landscaping business model.

  • Vehicle and Drivers License required.

  • Strong native plant knowledge and gardening skills a plus.

Salary Range: $100,000-$125,000, depending on experience.
