Tree Protection and Enforcement Agent (Part-Time)
The Town of Brookline is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable forestry or landscape planning/architecture professional passionate about addressing climate change by protecting Brookline’s urban tree canopy through the administration and enforcement of the Town’s Tree Protection Bylaw.
As the Tree Preservation and Enforcement Agent, you will play a central role in the implementation of Brookline’s Urban Forest Climate Resiliency Master Plan and protecting our beautiful tree canopy. Key Responsibilities:
Administer and enforce the Town’s Tree Protection and related bylaws
Serve as the department’s point person on tree regulations, including permit review and enforcement actions
Track and manage data related to various tree and landscape management bylaws
Collaborate with various departments and stakeholders to effectively implement tree protection bylaws, rules, and regulations
Communicate with members of the public, contractors, and other stakeholders to educate them about tree protection.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Arboriculture/Urban Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
Three to five years of experience reviewing and interpreting site plans
Experience enforcing bylaws, ordinances, and/or regulations
Knowledge & Skills:
Extensive knowledge of trees and/or landscape design
Ability to read/interpret engineering plans, documents, diagrams, site plans, and drawings
Ability to collect, analyze, and synthesize data; Excellent problem-solving/planning skills
Strong technical and computer skills; Proficiency in permitting software
Skilled at preparing educational and informational materials, correspondence, and other written materials
Ability to follow oral & written instructions

Multiple Positions: Green Roof Care Specialist - Landscape Maintenance Manager
Apex Green Roofs Inc.: we are a design/build green roof and landscape specialty contracting company based in Newbury, MA. Established in 2008, Apex Green Roofs Inc. is one of New England’s leading green roof solutions contractors. We have successfully guided and built over 200 green roof projects. Our designs and installations range from rural to urban locations throughout New England. We also run a commercial greenhouse to grow a select/limited species of plants that can survive harsh rooftop conditions.
Green Roof Maintenance Crew Member:
JOB DESCRIPTION
As part of the green roof maintenance crew, you will be an integral team member in managing and caring for our maintenance projects. You must be a competent licensed driver to operate our vehicles. Our crew travels from project to project starting in April and ends in December all around New England.
Your days will vary between:
Scheduling and planning your maintenance rounds
Maintenance of green roofs includes weeding, adding new plants in bare areas, pruning, spreading pre-emergent (organic) and fertilizer, watering, and irrigation set up (timers/sprinklers)
Greenhouse planting and organization
Driving to VT, NH, NY, MA, RI, and CT maintenance locations. Typically, there are a few locations a day along set routes. Most projects are visited 4 times a season, 1 in spring, 2 times in summer, and 1 in fall.
QUALIFICATIONS
Members of the green roof crew must have:
A clean and current driver’s license and sign our driver’s safety agreement
Be physically fit; comfortable with heights, setting up/climbing ladders, hot summer working conditions, squatting and kneeling
Comfortable and safety-conscious using basic cutting tools. Safety-first mindset. We will pay for OSHA 10 training when you start
Basic plant knowledge plus! More importantly - you have a desire to learn about plants: species, growing conditions, weed identification, pruning, watering, etc.
Organized and a strong communicator: field documentation is required to prepare reports and take pictures for client and company records.
Basic level of computer skills for mail communication and cloud file sharing
Professional demeanor and appearance as you will be interacting with clients
COMPENSATION
$25 per hour base rate. Increased base rate dependent on experience and dependable work history.
This position is seasonal between April and December
You must have reliable transportation to the office
Green Roof Installation Crew Member:
JOB DESCRIPTION
