Qualifications:
Master’s or Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program
Preference for Registered Landscape Architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, but not essential.
5-7 years of experience.
Experience in performing professional landscape architecture in all design phases from master planning to construction documentation and administration for parks and open space projects.
Experience in project coordination with strong management skills.
Strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.
Proficiency in Adobe and Microsoft suites, rendering, AutoCAD, 3D Modeling, and sketching.
Possession of Massachusetts Class D driver’s license required.

A CTECS Landscape Design, Installation and Equipment (LDIE) Instructor is responsible for educating students on theoretical and performance-based topics related to landscaping and equipment operation. The Landscape Design, Installation and Equipment program includes use and installation of materials such as interlocking concrete pavers and segmental retaining wall units (SRW), the related hand and power tools, soil preparation, drainage installation, operation and maintenance of power equipment, and greenscape installations and maintenance, such as turf, plants, trees, etc.
Qualifications required, (e.g., education, degrees, certification, licensing, skills, knowledge, abilities, specialized training)
Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant, varied, hands-on Landscape Design, Installation and Equipment experience.
Experience must encompass all areas specified in the program description in order to effectively teach the approved Landscape Design, Installation and Equipment curriculum. For a detailed explanation, please reference the Landscape Design, Installation and Equipment Program Description.
Apprentice training or formal training (college or technical institutes) can count up to five years. Formal training credit should be applied for coursework directly associated with Landscape Design, Installation and Equipment. Transcript review should determine the percentage of study time devoted to trade and be applied proportionately. Two thousand (2,000) hours of apprentice training equals one year based on a letter of completion from the Connecticut Labor Department.
If an applicant shows experience in only a few areas of landscaping and equipment operation this clearly shows that he/she cannot teach all areas of curriculum.
Combined experience cannot be counted to obtain multiple endorsements. Requirement is eight years for each subject area.
No trade license requirement
Occupational Subject Endorsement #090 in Landscape Design, Installation and Equipment (LDIE) is required.

Director of Green Infrastructure
The Boston Transportation and Public Works Departments are seeking a Director of Green Infrastructure to lead the City's green infrastructure programs, policies, and designs.
Under the direction of the Chief of Streets or their designee, the Director of Green Infrastructure will collaborate across City Departments, particularly Environment, Energy, and Open Space Cabinet, and BWSC to lead the City’s efforts to plan, build, and maintain green infrastructure as part of the Mayor’s Green New Deal for Boston. The Director of Green Infrastructure will be responsible for defining the process and policy for green infrastructure to better incorporate it into the City of Boston’s project plans, regulations, and operations.
Responsibilities:
Develop policy frameworks for green infrastructure in City-led projects.
Collaborate with Environment, Energy, and Open Space to develop and implement Green Infrastructure policies, programs, and projects.
Educate the City of Boston staff about Green Infrastructure and climate resilience across a wide variety of departments, such as BPS, Boston Planning, and others.
Provides guidance to enhance the “Green Infrastructure Job Pipeline,” in collaboration with the Worker Empowerment Cabinet and other relevant City departments.
Represents the OGI in City projects, programs, and initiatives (e.g. Climate-Ready Workforce).
Revises existing regulations and develops new regulations and guidelines for green infrastructure implementation in private development projects.
Work with appropriate engineering and planning teams to update standard details and design guidelines to incorporate current green infrastructure best practice, including:
Establish a nomenclature for city of Boston Green Infrastructure
Draft city of Boston policies to increase Green Infrastructure implementation
Update city of Boston standard details across a wide swath of departments, including Boston Public Works, Boston Transportation Department, Boston Parks and Recreation, Boston Public Schools and more to include green infrastructure
Relaunch the City’s Green Infrastructure Working Group to serve in both an advisory role and to increase knowledge-sharing; manage the group to develop Citywide green infrastructure plan.
Oversee the creation of an asset database containing existing and future City of Boston green infrastructure.
Implement a Green Infrastructure maintenance program for existing and future Green Infrastructure, both for in-house activities and contracts.
Identify potential funding sources for Green Infrastructure construction, maintenance, and monitoring.
Collaborate with BWSC on stormwater policies and fees, and liaise with BWSC around implementation, and provide guidance to City leadership on stormwater policies.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications:
Five (5) years of environmental planning, environmental science and/or engineering experience, of which at least three years of experience must have been in green infrastructure. A bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in environmental science, civil engineering, landscape architecture, or environmental engineering may be substituted for a maximum of two (2) years of the required experience. Education toward a degree will be pro-rated on the basis of degree requirements completed.
NGICP certification strongly preferred.
Background in policy and technical/engineering highly preferred.
Ability to interpret and make suggestions on drafting policy, regulations, and legislation.
Demonstrated ability to manage fast-paced complex work environments and to model a respectful and professional approach to work.
Demonstrated knowledge of policies and programs related to building green infrastructure to increase resilience, health, and equity.
Demonstrated working knowledge of NACTO’s Transit, Street, Urban Street Stormwater, and Urban Bikeway Design guides, Boston Complete Streets guidelines, MUTCD, and relevant AASHTO and FHWA guidelines.
Demonstrated working knowledge on industry best practices for delivering green infrastructure projects in the public right of way.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to prepare and deliver presentations in a variety of settings, including community organizations and public meetings.
Ability to research data and policies to make recommendations as well as prepare reports.
Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

The Boston Planning Department's Urban Design division is responsible for crafting and executing a beautiful, human-scale, and inclusive vision for the design of the built environment across Boston. We are currently seeking highly qualified applicants for a Senior Landscape Architect I position. Under the direction of the Deputy Director for Design Review and the Assistant Deputy Director of Public Realm Design, the Senior Landscape Architect I will conduct design review and solve complex landscape architectural and urban design problems, with a special focus on the public realm and issues of climate change. The Senior Landscape Architect I will be a critical member of project review teams, facilitating internal and interdepartmental conversations and communicating clear and actionable feedback, guided by city goals and policies, to project proponents. They will contribute to new and ongoing planning, design, and interdepartmental efforts on resilience, affordability, and equity. The Senior Landscape Architect I will help advance key City initiatives on climate adaptation and the urban forest.
