Ivy Studio is an established landscape design-build practice creating exceptional residential landscapes throughout Greater Boston and the South Shore. The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced design and construction leader to partner directly with the Principal in delivering some of the region's finest residential landscapes.
This position reports directly to the Principal and plays a central role in shaping the design, execution, and client experience of every project. This is not a production drafting role or a traditional management position. You'll help develop the creative direction of each project, guide it through documentation and permitting, and lead construction through completion.
You'll have meaningful responsibility for design, project delivery, budgets, client relationships, subcontractor selection, and field execution, helping shape the future of Ivy Studio.

What You'll Do
Partner with the Principal to develop projects from concept through construction.

Coordinate architects, engineers, builders, consultants, and subcontractors.

Qualifications
Required
Seven or more years of experience leading high-end residential landscape design-build projects.
Experience managing projects valued at $500,000 to $1 million or more.
Demonstrated responsibility for both design and construction execution.
Experience soliciting, evaluating, and negotiating subcontractor bids.
Strong client leadership and communication skills.
Proficiency producing construction-level documentation.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout Greater Boston and the South Shore.
Preferred
Massachusetts Registered Landscape Architect (RLA), or eligibility for licensure.
Degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field.
Familiarity with Massachusetts conservation, wetlands, and zoning permitting.

Superintendent of Grounds
Statement of Duties
The Superintendent of Grounds is responsible for the management and operation of all City public grounds maintenance and cleaning, including all schoolyards, parks, playgrounds, community paths, athletic fields, green spaces, and athletic courts, as well as the continued health/maintenance of all public shade trees within the City of Somerville.
Essential Functions

Manages a staff of foremen, tree care professionals, motor equipment operators, mechanics and laborers spanning the Grounds Division in the Department of Public Works.
Plans, organizes and directs the delivery of maintenance services for all planting beds, irrigation systems, surfaces and play structures for a portfolio of over 60 public open spaces.
Implements, develops, and monitors a variety of service contracts related to grounds maintenance including landscaping and surface maintenance, irrigation maintenance and repairs, play structure maintenance and repairs, as well as all cultural work on our the City’s natural grass fields and parks.
Develops, recommends and implements best practices for the maintenance and upgrading of the urban forest, including tree health evaluation/preventive maintenance, contracts to fertilize, spray, trim, remove dead trees, prevent Dutch elm disease, Pine Bark Beetles, Emerald Ash borer, and other urban forest deliverables per City plans.
Acts on the City’s behalf to protect the public in cases of emergency/hazardous situations involving all trees, including issuing orders to correct hazardous conditions.
Manages City vendors, including assessing and documenting vendor performance and efficiency.
Oversees seasonal changeovers and decorations on City property.
Coordinates departmental cooperation with stakeholders in other City departments, including City Administration, OSPCD, School Department, Recreation, Constituent Services, Infrastructure and Asset Management, Inspectional Services and others.
Supports, adjusts, and manages the City’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan in parks and playgrounds.
Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. City Council agenda items and briefings, contracts for professional services, budgets, property contracts, legislative updates, contract changes, requests for proposals, a variety of narrative and statistical reports related to constructions, maintenance, and modernization of facilities) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, seeking input, and/or conveying information.
Oversees and administers the purchasing of supplies and equipment according to Federal, State, and City purchasing policies and procedures.
Makes preliminary estimates of the cost of repairs and maintenance to City and School facilities.
Researches new products, laws, and regulations for the purpose of recommending purchases, contracts, maintaining city-wide services and compliance.
Selects vendors and contractors who provide ground maintenance services.
Reviews, comments on, and closes out all Grounds service orders, and ensures that work is completed appropriately and efficiently.
On site availability, at any hour, for all severe weather events including snow and flooding.
Oversees removal of snow from parks and playgrounds.
Other related duties as assigned.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Business Administration, Parks and Recreation Management, Turfgrass Science and Management or a related field, with five to seven (5-7) years of work experience managing one or more crews or laborers, with a preference for experience maintaining a portfolio of parks and playgrounds, or similar assets (athletic fields, golf courses, landscapes, etc) ; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Other Requirements:
Valid Class D driver’s license required, Commercial Drivers License preferred.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of operations, services and activities of a comprehensive park management program, including principles and practices of park management and facilities maintenance; playground safety, inspections and record keeping; irrigation system installation, maintenance and operations; tree, shrub and lawn care; installation and maintenance of large scale landscape environments; regular inspections and scheduled preventive maintenance on built fixed assets such as benches, fencing, water play features. Will also manage living assets such trees, shrubs, perennials, and diverse planting beds.
Knowledge and experience with work order management systems and ability to prioritize, schedule frequencies and assign work orders.
Knowledge of principles and practices of municipal budget preparation and administration preferred.
Working knowledge of state procurement laws preferred.
Knowledge of grant administration preferred.

Ecological Landscape Project Manager

Perfect Earth Project is seeking an Ecological Landscape Project Manager to play a leading role in developing and managing an ecological consulting and advisory practice focused on transitioning properties to toxic-free, nature-based land care. This position combines ecological consulting, project coordination, client guidance, land care oversight and practitioner training. The Ecological Landscape Project Manager will work directly with Edwina von Gal helping to guide clients, coordinate implementation, oversee ecological land care practices, and train landscapers, in order to ensure the successful transformation of properties into thriving, biodiverse landscapes, and create the commitment and team work required to ensure long term success and joyful outcomes.

Responsibilities
Participate in site visits and meetings.

Coordinate pricing proposals, schedules, communications, deliverables, and project follow-through.
Help oversee all phases of installation and land-care implementation.
Ensure projects remain aligned with ecological, aesthetic, and operational goals throughout the process.
Ecological Consulting - Property Owner Guidance
Prepare ecological site assessments and reports for clients.
Identify, assemble and coordinate land care teams.
Ensure success of property transitions through client communication and excellent service responses by land care professionals.
Train land care teams as needed.
Assist in identifying and engaging new clients and experts for formation of consultation response teams.
Work with Perfect Earth Project and the PRFCT Earth School in developing systems, standards, and best practices for an emerging model of ecological consulting and land care engagement and education.
Serve as an ambassador for ecological stewardship, biodiversity, and nature-based landscape management.
Landscape Professional Coordination & Training
Work closely with landscape teams on projects to help introduce and reinforce ecological land care practices and toxic-free management approaches.
Coordinate and support training sessions for landscapers and maintenance crews.
Foster productive relationships with landscape professionals while helping to bring them into better understanding of and commitment to ecological land care.
Monitor work quality and help troubleshoot challenges throughout project implementation and ongoing care.
Help demonstrate and communicate a compelling model for responsible, nature-based landscape management.
Support alignment with the ecological principles and educational mission of Perfect Earth Project.
Train land care teams as needed.

Senior Restoration Designer (SRD)
Your Mission:
The Senior Restoration Designer (SRD) will work closely and collaboratively with the design team to design ecological restoration projects that achieve client goals, meet regulatory requirements, and ecologically uplift the site. The primary responsibilities will be managing and mentoring design staff in the development of the design strategies and the creation of documents required to successfully permit projects with local and state regulatory agencies. Restoration Designer (RD)
The Restoration Designer (RD) produces documentation for land management programs and restoration projects. The RD ensures that all documentation is conducted within the parameters of the work orders to meet client needs and regulatory requirements, and is consistent with WED’s mission and guiding principles. The RD assists with design guidance and delegation of design deliverables to junior design staff, including the ARD and Design Intern.
Principal Accountabilities
Working under the supervision of the Director of Design, coordinate with WED team to ensure projects are designed and implemented to achieve client goals, meet regulatory requirements, and maintain consistency with WED’s mission statement and guiding principles.
Conduct research, complete thorough and detailed site analysis evaluations, perform associated fieldwork and document field investigations in written, verbal and graphic form.
Accurately draft detailed plans, design documents and drawings in written and graphic form, including Land Management Plans, Restoration Plans, site programming diagrams, illustrative sketches, diagrams, sections, as well as construction sections and details

Knowledge of invasive plant species and control/management techniques.

Associate, Cambridge Office
Reed Hilderbrand is currently seeking talented landscape architects/designers with 5+ years of professional experience to join our Cambridge office at the Associate level.
Successful candidates will demonstrate the capacity to think conceptually and develop designs independently; have excellent verbal communication skills; and exhibit sound decision-making, time management and organization. Experience with technical detailing, coordination, and construction administration is preferred. Qualified candidates will also have demonstrated experience in a project management role. Proficiency in CAD (Vectorworks preferred) and Adobe Creative Suite is required. Proficiency in modeling and rendering programs, including Rhino/Lumion, etc., is preferred.
Project opportunities span academic and institutional campus landscapes, urban plazas and streetscapes, private residences and public parks. Associates at RH have the opportunity to manage projects, shaping design concepts from inception through implementation. Compensation includes a competitive salary (commensurate with experience) and a comprehensive benefits package.
Salary Range: 80,000-100,000
